Keep in mind that this game is very much a trial and error game. All of the best players are the ones that spent the most time trying to figure out how to do all the crimes. The quicker you can get to the most difficult crimes and crack them, the quicker you will raise in level and gain money. Also, make sure to horde as many treasures as you can get, ranking is dependent on lots of different things but treasure is one of the big ones. With that said, don't stress it too much, rank will come with time. Have fun with the game and don't be afraid to ask questions when you're stumped.

glad to help out, its good for around lvl 10. just make sure to sell any spare items over 20 of the reward from that crime, if you dont you will pay 1000$ in storage fee for each ammount over 20. lets say you got 31 (item name), then you will pay 11000$ each update, wich is a fortune for your level.
also maybe start experiment with very easy, easy and the first normal crime when you get around lvl 5. you could use 5 turns for the crime I told you to do, and use 2 turns to experiment with
