Part of the game is the experimentation necessary to figure out which crime(s) certain items belong in.

But its a treasure item so im pretty sure it does nothing

Depends on whether I'm buying or selling. It isn't worth a whole lot, that I can tell you. I just bought one off of the player's market for about 5k.
