You are doing this by clicking on Choose a Specialty button just below your image. Specialties are very important but you can only have 3! So choose carefully! For details on specialties, click here.
Step 2:

After you have picked your first specialty, it is time to use the 24 attribute points you got! You can use them as you like, but remember that the maximum value for each is 20! Attributes are very important as well and you must choose them according to the type of character you want. More details for attributes can be found here.
Step 3

Now perhaps it would be a good time to train a bit.
When you choose a specialty, you are automatically given 2 skills, which are untrained. If you want efficiency you should plan to train them to their full potential. To do this you can click on Train link. This will take you to the train page. You can see more details about training here.
Step 4

Perhaps it's time to find a new place to live. Don't expect much in the beginning. You are poor and weak, so anything will do just fine for now.
To get a new house click on the Homeless link at your character status table. This will take you to the house page where you can pick what is next from there. For more information about houses, click here.
Step 5

Keeping even the worst dump in the city needs money. If you can't pay your rent you will be thrown out and you don't want this.
So it would be good to go and find a job. To do this, click on the Unemployment link at your character status table. This will take you to the job page where can pick what is next from there. For more information about jobs, click here.
